Must Do
Do Hit the Amazing Sports Complexes
The other music that brought us that particular time to the city was from the Foo Fighters and The Pretenders (great show) at Target Field, the home of the Minnesota Twins.
The baseball stadium in the historic warehouse district opened in 2010 and ESPN The Magazine ranked it the best baseball experience in North America. It is a beautiful venue with great dining options and a leftfield roof deck with turf and the only bonfire in the Majors.
Not far away is the U.S. Bank Stadium, the home of the Minnesota Vikings, which opened in 2016. I gotta say, as a Pittsburgh Steeler die hard so it’s saying a lot, this stadium is awesome.
Not only does it have the capacity of more than 66,000, it has the largest transparent roof in the U.S., the largest set of pivoting glass doors in the world, and one of the largest telescopic seating systems ever manufactured.
But my real envy was for the Vikings Legacy Ship – a dragon-headed Viking ship at the stadium entrance that is 54 feet tall with a 2,000-square-foot curving high-definition LED screen, and smoke effects. People can climb onboard. The dragon’s eyes change colors. The dragon’s eyes change colors! You need to see this.

Do see the George Floyd memorial
The spot where George Floyd was murdered on Memorial Day 2020 by police officer Derek Chauvin is a somber place and worth the time for reflection.
Floyd, 46, was accused of trying to use a counterfeit $20 bill at the CUP Food Store, leading Chauvin to kneel on his neck for more than nine minutes, killing him. Video of the scene outside the inauspicious corner store, Floyd calling for his mama and saying he couldn’t breathe at least 27 times, set off national protests.
Since then, a square area in front of the store is cordoned off and contains flowers, signs and other mementos. A mural of Floyd is around the corner.

Do check out these restaurants
Minneapolis has a very pleasing number of restaurant choices, but the most iconic is Matt’s, a city landmark and the home of the Juicy Lucy. The burger with cheese cooked inside is worth the trek but expect a line to get into what will put you in mind of a small local beer joint. Seating is limited, even for the bar.
At Owamni by Sioux Chef, named best new restaurant in 2022, you’ll savor the true flavors of Native Americans made and served by Native Americans while overlooking the Mississippi River. The restaurant does not serve ingredients that were introduced to the region by Europeans, including butter, dairy, sugar, black pepper, wheat, chicken, beef, and pork.
Run as a not-for-profit, its dishes include amaranth tostadas with dip made from tepary beans and smoked trout; a crispy cricket seed mix with chili and maple; bison tartare garnished with wasna and curled crackers made of wild rice and corn’s ancestor, teosinte; arepas with ground elk, sweet potatoes, and pepitas; as well as turkey.
Wojabe, a foraged berry sauce traditionally made with chokeberries, tops both sweet and savory dishes.
Hai Hai in the northeast portion of the city is a 2024 James Beard award winner. Its Southeast Asian street food is out of this world.
A diverse variety of restaurants along a stretch of Nicollet Avenue south of Downtown is known as “Eat Street”and offers many tempting international options.
The city also has about 35 breweries.
